Success Stories

Henry

Henry came to us after being abandoned by his owners and neglected for years before. His hooves were terribly overgrown and he was scared of people. He was also thin, and his coat was in terrible condition. With time and TLC, Henry slowly blossomed into one of the most loving, gentle, and patient donkeys we have come across. The vet and farrier both commented on how well behaved he was for them. He quickly learned how to lead and pick up his feet. Everyone that came to meet him was instantly charmed, and his foster mom joked that he had a fan club. Henry has found a home on a beautiful 20 acre farm with two horse brothers, pigs, goats, chickens, dogs, and sweet kitten pictured riding him around on his gotcha day.

Nimrod, Bethsheba, Tamar, & Enoch

These four goats (2 wethers, 2 does) were surrendered to the rescue when their owners moved away. They were well loved and cared for, and just needed a soft place to land. They found home that they could go to as a family, and are happily exploring their new 20 acre spread.

Captain Jack

Jack the turkey was rescued from an auction. After he came to us, he was wounded by a fox. He spent a month and a half at the vet hospital being cared for and suturing his wounds. He healed really well from the attack and has found his new family!

Owen & Loki

Owen came to us with a limp in his back leg. We had him x-rayed and found that he had an old break that didn’t heal right. He is not in pain, but will always have a limp. His best friend is Loki the wether goat kid. He came to us with Owen as a bottle baby. Owen and Loki were lucky and got adopted together so they could maintain their best bud status.

George

George was an owner surrender. He was a tiny kitten at the time. We had him vetted and neutered. He was adopted by a family but returned due to no fault of his own. He is now with a new forever family!

Louie & Taco

These 11 year old mini horse geldings were surrendered to the rescue when their older owners could no longer care for them. They are very sweet boys and were adopted by their foster family.

Jacob

We got Jacob when we went to the kill pen to pickup Abby. They told us there was a donkey that needed out, and so he came home with us. Jacob was a very sweet boy that just needed some TLC. He was adopted last month by a great family to be a companion for their horse.

Stacey

Stacy came from a friend’s (now board member’s) neighbor.  She works at a local farm store, and this chicken had splay leg.  One of my coworkers at the animal hospital adopted her and tried to do therapy on her leg.  The decision was made to amputate the affected leg to give her a better life.  She is doing fantastic and is loving life as a house chicken!

Dreamer

I was contacted about taking in a paint horse from out of state that had been diagnosed with EPM.  The owner wanted to euthanize instead of spending the money to treat.  The vet reached out to a friend who reached out to me to take the horse.  We agreed to take him.  Per our vets advice, we decided to treat him with EPM meds for a month before having him transported as stress can exasperate the symptoms of epm.  He was then transported to us.  He was thin, really beat up, and had abscesses in both front hooves.  We got him under the care of our veterinarian as soon as he arrived.  He slowly recovered with the epm treatment, and we found that he also had ringbone which required special shoeing. He was adopted almost a year later by a really great lady to live out his life at her beautiful farm!

Spirit

Spirit has found his forever home. He was passed over by a lot of adopters due to his fear, dislike of geldings, and his attachment issues. However he bonded with our founder’s youngest daughter. She was the only one that could catch him when he first came to rescue. He adores her. After many months of being passed over, he was adopted by our founder. He will live his life happily here with his best horse friends and his girl. I know they will have many amazing years together as they are a match made in heaven. It was unlikely that he would come to us but as fate would have it he was meant to be here. He and Genesis are affectionately known as the double mint twins. This adoption was approved by the board of directors and his fee was paid.

Cydney

Cydney came to us when we were at a horse auction. We weren’t supposed to be there that night, but my husband locked the keys in the car and we were waiting for help. My husband saw her walk into the ring and she was so skinny and scared. They were spurring her trying to make her go. He heard the kill buyer bidding on her so he bid. She came home with us. She was so thin and so scared when she got here. She went through at least 3 auctions and originally came from Texas. We were able to get her to trust and give her appropriate food. She was adopted 6 months later by a great lady who is going to trail ride her. Cydney was a very sweet girl that really touched our hearts

Boaz (Bo)

FROM BO’S ADOPTER:

It was just over a year ago that I discovered God’s Grace Animal Rescue. My life has been enormously blessed since that time. My friend, April Jeanette, adopted Love the donkey from Lynn and her team, and I have had the privilege to share in her care. I have to say, I cannot believe that I was 56 years old before I discovered what amazing creatures donkeys are! I am in love and completely hooked!

Fast forward to the present….. I was chosen by the rescue to share my life with another donkey, Boaz. Boaz was pulled by Lynn from a small animal auction. He was labelled as unhandled, and only the kill buyer was bidding on him. Folks, this is the absolute SWEETEST, goofiest, most lovable boy! He blesses my life every single day with his antics and his enormous capacity for giving love. Somehow, Lynn knew that Boaz belonged with me, and I am honored to provide him a forever home. Boaz, aka “Bo”, my hat-munching, fence-defying, zebu-chasing, lap-sitting, ponytail-pulling goober… my life is immeasurably better with you in it!

And, Lynn Hasting Fozzy, along with her team at God’s Grace Animal Rescue, have become friends and family in such a short time. It is as though we have been friends forever! Their dedication to the welfare of the animals in their care is unmatched. They are my heroes.

Delilah

Delilah was a skin and bones, 20-something mule mare when she came to the rescue. She was saved from the kill buyer by a friend at an auction. She contacted us to see if we would rehabilitate her and get her adopted. After spending some time getting healthy, she was adopted by a wonderful family and is now living her best life.

Patsy & Shiloh

FROM PATSY & SHILOH’S ADOPTER:

From the first picture I saw on God’s Grace rescue page, I knew Patsy was special. I told my husband, this horse was going to live here with us someday. I watched and followed her journey closely including the bonus baby Shiloh. I had reached out early on to the rescue. When the time felt right, I filled out my application and went to meet Patsy. I was a nervous wreck the entire trip 4 plus hours (husband had to stop way too many times on the way). I was so afraid she’d hate me or we wouldn’t connect. Great news she did connect to me and didn’t even mind my husband. They were so welcoming that we hung out several hours and met the other animals. Application in and process was easy on my end. References were called and board voted to allow them both to live with me. I hardly slept the night before picking them up. Another long drive (again with too many stops for my liking), we arrived and again did some visiting, crying and lots of hugs. Patsy loaded up in our trailer like she’s been doing it out while life. Shiloh needed some assistance, more tears and hugs, I brought this sweet couple home. Thank you to God’s Grace rescue for everything they’ve done for Patsy. She’s settling in here great, letting me work with both of them. She’s enjoying her pasture and daily runs with Shiloh. I can’t wait to see what’s she’s like in 6 months. God’s Grace Rescue and their volunteers are truly doing great work.

Hadassah & Pixie

Hadassah came to us from a kill pen in Kansas pregnant, with another mare and an 8 month old unhandled filly. Hadassah was scared, but a sweet girl who became quite the love bug! Her adopter met her the day after she came to us when she came to pickup Love the donkey. It was love at first sight. Hadassah stayed with us until she delivered her foal and got the ok to travel with her baby to her new home!

Hadassah & Pixie adopted

Naomi

Naomi came as a failed house lamb. There were two of them, but the dogs killed her friend. She was surrendered to rescue and we found her an amazing with our veterinarian’s office manager.

Lady Mae

Lady Mae came to us from a horse auction in Missouri, she was thin and said to be pregnant (which we found was untrue). She stayed here and we brought her back to health and did an ultrasound, which was negative for pregnancy. She was adopted by a family out of state to be a companion for a horse.

Levi

A NOTE FROM LEVI:

Hey everyone, it’s Levi! My new mom wanted me to check in and let everyone know how my adoption went with Miss Lynn, Mr. Jim, and Miss Terrye. First, I gotta say, I’m so thankful for my soft landing at God’s Grace Animal Rescue. Even though they took my manhood away shortly after my arrival. Something about me being a S.T.U.D. (like I can’t spell…pfft!). Anyway, after I healed up, I went to my new home on foster to adopt. Something about my new mom had to see how well I got along with my new big brother who was away in Florida for training before she could officially adopt me. C’mon…who can resist ALL this cuteness! Something about me being a P.O.N.Y. (again, like I can’t spell). Then came the time to go pick up big brother from training and I got to go along on the trip. My big brother is SUPER cool and we play a lot together. I guess I won her over and she decided to make my adoption official even though I pick on him because, well, I am still a P.O.N.Y. (hehe). My new life is SO much better than being tied to that tree with a halter embedded in my face. My mom said all the paperwork went really smoothly and would highly recommend God’s Grace Animal Rescue to adopt a new furry, hooved friend. So what are you waiting for? Go find your new best friend!

Levi is very happy in his forever home

Abby

FROM ABBY’S ADOPTER:

This is my sweet girl Abby who I adopted from Lynn. She is such a wonderful addition to my family. Lynn was such a help with any questions or concerns. Abby has conversations with my dog. FYI my dog is over 100 lbs and is a Rottweiler mix. She follows him around like any little sister. She cuddles with me on the couch. Nothing beats her smile, wagging tale and who doesn’t love a good snout kiss. I wish I could have brought the others with me. They make wonderful pets, probably cleaner than my dog and cat. And most importantly she’s a lover.

Lizzie

Lizzie came in as an owner surrender from someone who could no longer care for her. We house trained her to use a litter box and she found an amazing forever family!

Genesis

Genesis came to us as an untamed 8 month old filly with two other mares. I didn’t want to take her as they told me she was a stud colt. She came and we worked on halter breaking and taming her. She stole my heart. I have never connected with another horse in my life the way I connected with her. Everyone saw the bond between us when she laid down next to me in the field and put her head in my lap and took a nap. At that point I knew. I asked my board if I could adopt her and what her fee would be and made her adoption official!

Love

FROM LOVE’S ADOPTER:

Several months ago, I was sitting at work and my coworker showed me the story of a donkey that was eventually named Love. Weeks and weeks went by and we watched this donkey go from being basically feral to showing signs of loving and trusting humans. It wasn’t easy for the people who were working with her and she kicked them a few times and was untrusting and scared. Love and patience prevailed, and she became a favorite at the rescue. After several more weeks, my friend and I went to the rescue to see the donkey as well as the other animals at the rescue. My friend and I fell in love with Love and decided that we needed to take her home. She went from being an unhandled, scared, and neglected member of God’s creatures to being one of the most loving and desired. We took her home with us where she currently lives with a full sized horse and a mini horse. Their antics are hilarious and they act like a bunch of siblings. It has been said that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and this is definitely the case. The donkey that was thrown away is now an integral part of the family/heard that we have. She will never again know hunger and she will never be lonely or unloved.

Jake, Tabby, & Momma

Jake, Tabby, and Momma were surrendered to the rescue as they were owned by an older couple whose health had declined. We took them in and were supposed to transfer to a different rescue as we didn’t have room for them. The other rescue fell through so we made them a stall in our hay barn. Momma was adopted to be a companion animal for a horse and Jake and tabby were adopted by a couple out of state. Jake has already learned how to pull a cart.

Jericho

Jericho was an owner surrender. We got him castrated, vaccinated and he was adopted by a local veterinarian!

Lucas

FROM LUCAS’ ADOPTER:

I wanted to share my experience I have had with God’s Grace Rescue! It changed my life!! I received a phone call from Lynn 1 day asking me if I could foster a horse who was severely emaciated and the owner agreed to hand this boy (we named him Lucas) over to her rescue but she had no room. Well…I have never fostered an animal before and I have not had a horse since I was 12…I am 52 now, so I was a little nervous, but honestly I could not say no! I had no knowledge or experience nursing an animal back to health, but I didn’t need to have either! Lynn knew exactly what he needed and provided me with everything and told me what to do. Within days he started gaining weight and the sparkle was coming back into his eyes! All I had to do was follow her instructions and just give him as much love as I could give him! If I ever had a question or concern (which I had many…lol) she was right there! Every morning when I would walk into the barn I could see a little bit more life in his eyes and a little bit more of his true sweet personality coming out!! It was one of the most rewarding and amazing feeling I have ever experienced! Someday when I have more room I would love to foster another animal in need for God’s Grace! The heart, the dedication and knowledge this Rescue has is amazing! I totally fell in love with Lucas…as he was healing he grew to trust me and our bond is pretty strong! I just could not let him go and adopted him so I could spoil him rotten forever! And Lynn is still right here for me if I need her advice or help!

Elijah & Benji

Benji and Elijah both came from an auction where no one was bidding on them. We brought them home, got them castrated, their vaccines, and were able to find them an amazing home!

Joy and Baby Noah

A friend of mine sent me a link to a kill pen that had two pregnant donkeys that needed to be bailed out in Kansas.  I showed my husband, a friend raised the bail money for them and my husband and I drove over 12 hours round trip to pick them up.  She  had been scheduled to go to Mexico on the next truck.  Joy was covered in flies and thin and sick but it didn’t take long to bring her back to health. Six weeks after bringing Joy here she delivered a perfect baby boy that we named Noah.  We raised Noah here until his forever family came and now he is living with his forever family.

Lydia

Lydia was another owner surrender.  She was the sweetest girl and had such a big personality.  She was adopted by a great family and she has already done events and will be trained for therapy!!!

Happy tails Lydia!

The Lost Donkey

We were out to dinner with our family one night when we got a call from our local police chief.  They had reports of a donkey on the loose, and he wanted to know if it was mine.  It wasn’t but he requested our help to catch it.  We grabbed the horse trailer and were on the scene in 20 minutes.  My daughter and I were searching the woods with several officers.  We spent quite awhile searching but couldn’t find her.  We left a bag of treats, food, and a halter behind and told them to call us if anyone caught her and we would keep her safe.  We got home, and then they called to say they had caught her.  We picked her up and brought her back to the rescue to keep her safe.  We built her a temp pen in our hay barn as she had to be quarantined.  We called our farrier out because her hooves were quite long.  Later that day the owner came forward.  We were able to reunite her with her owner that next day!

Georgia

I occasionally get odd calls about loose animals to see if I can help.  Georgia was one of them.  She found herself in a residential area in South County where there was no food for her and it was during an ice storm.  A kind person set her some water and food out until he could find someone to help.  With the help of a friend, we were able to capture her.  She was such a sweet girl!  We posted on all the sites we could think of and contacted Grants Farm and several other places around the area to see if they were missing one.  No one came forward to claim her. We were able to find her a home with our hay supplier that had other peafowl.

Snow

Snow was brought to my work at Tractor Supply after someone dumped him in a mailbox in the freezing cold.  The poor thing had urine stains all over his feet and belly.  He was in sad shape.  We of course took him in and got him back to health and gave him a bath.  He was adopted by a friend of mine and is absolutely loved by a little girl!

Blue & Sam

Blue and Sam.  Blue and Sam came from a local auction barn at the small animal sale.  They were both in poor condition and terrified.  We bid on them and brought them home. Blue was diagnosed with BIV and wasn’t given a good prognosis.  We were able to find the pair a home at a local sanctuary where they befriended a special needs cow and became best friends!

Samson

Samson found himself caught by our local animal control.  They contacted me to see if I could take him as they do not have the facilities for farm animals.  We picked him up that day. We had him castrated, vaccinated, and found him a great home with other goats (they are now fostering animals for us).  We recently visited him and he is doing amazing!

Lieutenant Dan

Lieutenant Dan came to us from Illinois.  He was in a bad situation and some Good Samaritans stepped up to help.  He and his female companion were transported to us.  The female died overnight, she was in really bad shape.  Dan also had wounds from dog attacks, kids throwing rocks at him and beating him with sticks.  He spent a good two months at my clinic being rehabbed.  He was adopted by a coworker.

Ruth and Boaz

Ruth came to us as a temporary foster while the owner was having some financial issues.  We took her in and immediately began the search for a mate for her as her mate passed before she came to us.  She ended up being abandoned here.  We sought medical care, and did end up finding her a mate.  She ended up being adopted by a great couple that had an entire room dedicated to them!

Elmer

Elmer came from a local horse auction where no one but the kill buyer was bidding on him. We brought him home and he went to a foster home. We were able to get him castrated & vaccinated and found him a great home as a livestock guardian living with goats!

Abigail

Abigail was an owner surrender from a girl that was going to college and couldn’t care for her anymore. We got her spayed and house trained. She was adopted by a first time pig owner who absolutely adores her!

Grace

Grace is a mini Mediterranean donkey.  Before Grace came to the rescue, she had never been touched by anyone and was headed for slaughter. When she arrived, her coat was horrible, her mane was falling out, she was incredibly skinny compared to the barrel she is today, and was frightened by anything and everything. You could see in her eyes that she was scared and needed some love and time to become the amazing sassy girl she is today. She has grown into a very fluffy donkey with a spitfire attitude, challenging her mother a lot. Grace loves her mommy a lot, and lets her do most anything, with of course the occasional bad day. Grace is a sweet little donkey but her attitude makes her seem like a huge flaming ball of sass.

Magic

Magic the mini mare came to the rescue after being neglected for a couple of years. She arrived with lots of bones showing, cuts on both her left legs, and emotional damage. She would not let anyone, and I mean anyone, come near or touch her. You would have to work hard to catch her. The moment I first saw the tiny black mini, I was drawn to her. I wanted to help her feel better. I would kneel a couple feet in front of her until she would let me give her kisses. She was completely against this at first. But due to a lot of treats and apples, she managed. Today, Magic is literally one of the sassiest mares around. If you touch her ears, she’ll flop her head like a drama queen. If you don’t give her all the treats she wants, she’ll nudge you to remind you. Magic has filled out very nicely and her mane, tail, and coat are so pretty. Magic has the kindest heart under her sassiness.

Charity and Baby Joey

A friend of mine sent me a link to a kill pen that had two pregnant donkeys that needed to be bailed out in Kansas.  I showed my husband, a friend raised the bail money for them and my husband and I drove over 12 hours round trip to pick them up.  She  had been scheduled to go to Mexico on the next truck.  Charity was covered in flies and thin and sick but it didn’t take long to bring her back to health. Six weeks after bringing Charity here she delivered a perfect baby boy that we named Joseph aka Joey.  We raised Joey here until his forever family came and now he is living with his forever family.

Angel and Her Baby

Angel was rescued with Magic at the horse auction.  She was in the best condition of the three but still covered in lice.  We had no idea that she was pregnant even with vet checks.  She hid her baby well.  Her and her baby are staying together forever. She was also adopted with Cloud and living their happily ever after!

Cloud

Cloud was rescued with Magic and Angel.  She was also in very bad shape as you can see from the pictures.  She came around quickly with groceries and love.  Now she is living her forever life with her friend Angel and Thunder.
